Carrot Halwa | Gajar ka Halwa


  • A little over 1/2 kg of liquid milk. Try to use full cream milk to get a better taste.
  • 1/2 cup Powder milk, 1 cup Sugar. You can take sugar as you desired.
  • 3-4 tbsp pure clarified butter/ghee. Clarified Butter or Ghee.
  • 1/2 tsp Green cardamom powder
  • Some chopped Almond and Pistachio. Always try to use fresh, washed carrots to make halwa.

Use a peeler to peel off and a grater to grate nicely. You can use a knife instead of a grater to do it. Let’s start cooking Carrot recipe Halwa or gajar recipe Halwa Step by step with pictures. 

Firstly, warm a pan on the stove and then add 3 tbsp ghee.

Pour previously prepared grated carrots to it and fry roast a bit on medium flame.
Stir at regular intervals to avoid burning else taste will be damaged.

Add 1/2 tsp green cardamom and stir to mix properly

Cover the pan and cook until juice/milk stops coming out. Stir occasionally
Add sugar now.
Water/juice will ooze out after adding sugar. Dry this on medium flame keeping the lid open.
Add some raisins, chopped almond & pistachio. Stir to mix them well.

Then add 1/2 cup powder milk. Avoid using condensed milk. stir continuously to mix them well else lumps will be formed

Keep the flame low when cooking is almost done.

Add 1tbsp ghee to get excellent taste & flavor as the flavor from previously added ghee is already reduced

Stir regularly to mix properly and cook for another 2 minutes only.

Sumptuous carrot halwa is cooked and the excellent flavor is coming out.

Now garnish the halwa with raisins, chopped almond, and pistachio. Carrot halwa is ready to be served.
